Each year, more than 400 groups in the Washington, DC, community host special events to raise money and awareness for the work of Children's National Medical Center.

 Kids Care Classic Golf Tournament - June 24, 2010

Kids Care Classic 2010The 5th annual Kids Care Classic golf tournament and luncheon was held on June 24 at the Patuxent Greens Country Club in Laurel, MD.  Guests and Dr. Bear braved the heat on the course, enjoyed lunch, a silent auction, and door prizes at the clubhouse.  The tournament has a loyal following--33 participants have been involved each year since its inception. Children's National is grateful for  their continued support!

Lexus Presents Children's Ball - May 8, 2010

Attendees at Children's Ball 2010Children’s Ball has a longstanding tradition of bringing together people committed to the health of children in the Washington area, across the country, and around the world. This year's Ball was held on May 8, 2010, at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, where guests enjoyed, dinner, a live auction, and dancing.

In addition to paying tribute to Lexus and other Children’s Ball sponsors, the event honored the government of Abu Dhabi, whose generous gift in 2009 enabled Children’s National Medical Center to establish the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation.

ComPassion Golf Tournament - April 26, 2010

On April 26th, Passion Food Hospitality hosted the 5th Annual ComPassion Golf Tournament at the Reston National Golf Course, followed by an awards reception at Passion Fish restaurant.  Despite Mother Nature’s best efforts, it was a great day on the links!  Since its inception, the tournament has raised more than $150,000 for Children’s National Medical Center!

Craig Laughlin Benefit- March 26, 2010

Craig Laughlin, the Washington Capitals announcer and a former Capitals player, enlisted many of his fellow Capitals alumni, Washington Redskin Chris Cooley and former Redskin Brian Mitchell to attend the benefit at the Blue Dolphin Restaurant in Gambliss, MD.  It was a fun night with some competitive bidding during the live auction, and approximately $40,000 was raised for Children’s National!

Dancing After Dark - January 23, 2010

 Dancing After Dark 2010

Washington's young philanthropists gathered for an evening of cocktails, dessert, and dancing at Sequoia in Georgetown. Now in its third year, Dancing After Dark was a rousing success--besides having a great time, attendees at the sold-out event raised more than $45,000 for Children's National.

THROWDOWN! For Kids - June 19, 2009

THROWDOWN! For Kids

They seemed like regular employees of a mid-sized consulting firm about to have lunch. But on June 19, 2009, participants at Bates White pulled out their favorite recipes and squared off in their 2nd annual "THROWDOWN! For Kids" to raise money for Children’s National. The would-be chefs faced off in friendly competition as their colleagues judged their favorite dishes.

When it was time to head back to work, the folks at Bates White had raised more than $2,600 for Children's.

Be Brave and Shave - Nov. 19, 2009

Be Brave and Shave, Nov. 15, 2009

On November 15, 2009 more than 80 people had their heads shaved to raise money for cancer research and treatment at Children’s National Medical Center. The event raised more than $200,000. 

In addition to area police and firefighters, Drs. Marianna Horn and Max Coppes also joined in shaving their heads.

Lexus Presents Children's Ball - May 2, 2009

Children's Ball 2009The 2009 Children's Ball at Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium on May 2 raised more than $830,000 to benefit Children's National Medical Center.  Over 550 guests attended the third annual ball, the signature event of Children’s National, and enjoyed dinner, live auction and dancing.  

In their ninth year of support of the Children's Ball, the Washington Area Lexus Dealers were the title sponsors of the event.  Additional sponsors included Fox News Channel, Beers & Cutler, and PNC Bank.

Van Metre 5-Mile Run - Mar. 28, 2009

Runners at the 2009 Van Metre 5-Mile Race


The 17th Annual Van Metre 5-Mile Race to benefit Children's National Medical Center was held on March 28, 2009. Runners of all ages came out despite the rainy weather, and children earned their medals by participating in the One-Mile Fun Run/Walk. The event raised $50,000.

Wig Walk - Dec. 12, 2008

Wig Walk was born in December 2004 when Leslie Hall and Kate Farrington collaborated to answer the question, "Where can I wear my fabulous wig?" What started four years ago as a lighthearted attempt to gather friends, keep their heads warm in December, and visit bars in Adams Morgan has morphed into a charity event. All the proceeds from the ticket sales go to Children's National Medical Center. See photos > >

Ralph Lauren Shopping Benefit - Dec. 4, 2008

Amy (pictured left) and Bret Baier, along with Cindy and Evan Jones, hosted an evening of cocktails and holiday shopping to benefit the Center for Heart, Lung, and Kidney Disease at Children's National Medical Center. Fifteen percent of the evening's sales at the Ralph Lauren store in The Collection at Chevy Chase went to benefit the center. See photos from the event >>

 Barn Dance for Pediatric Diabetes Care Complex - Oct. 12, 2008

Bob and Mimi Schwartz hosted a Barn Dance fundraiser on Oct. 12, 2008, to support the creation of a new Pediatric Diabetes Care Complex. Their son, Evan, greeted everyone with a personal message: "Thanks for coming to have some fun. You, along with my mom and dad, are helping to build a world-class clinical and educational center for diabetes in the DC metro area. This is gonna help me and other kids learn how to best treat diabetes and maybe even find a way to get rid of it." See photos from the dance >>

 Mustaches for Kids - Dec. 11, 2008

Mustaches for Kids

They came dressed as 1970s TV anchormen, Olympic gold medalist Mark Spitz, and Mike Ditka, among others. Some looked snazzy and sophisticated; others, well, slightly scary.  But all 30 men who gathered to present a check for $30,661.50 to Children’s National Medical Center on Dec. 11, 2008, had one thing in common--hair on their upper lip. It was all part of the ‘Stache Bash, an annual event that challenges men to grow mustaches and collect money for charity from family and friends. What does a zoo have in common with a children’s hospital? More than you might think, as Children’s Circle of Care members found out on Sept. 16 at Smithsonian’s National Zoo.
