Costco Wholesale

Costco is committed to improving the accessibility and quality of health care for children in our communities. By assisting Children’s Hospitals across North America with financial and personal support, Costco helps to ensure we have healthy and productive citizens now and in the future.

--Jim Sinegal, President/CEO/Founder/Director

2009 Costco check presentation

Since 1988, Costco Wholesale Corporation has raised more than $100 million for children’s hospitals nationwide, through its partnership with the Children’s Miracle Network. In the greater Washington area, Costco has raised more than $4 million to support Children’s National Medical Center. In 2009 alone, Costco raised $824,000 for Children’s National. Each year Costco strives to increase their Children’s Miracle Network fundraising through the in-store Miracle Balloon campaign and a regional golf tournament.

Costco’s stated mission is to provide its members with quality goods and services at the lowest possible prices. In order to achieve that mission, the company conducts business with the following code of ethics in mind:

  • Obey the law.
  • Take care of our members.
  • Take care of our employees.
  • Respect our vendors.
  • Reward our shareholders.

Costco also takes a leading role in the communities in which they do business, believing it is important to give back to those who contribute to their success. Costco is well known for its generosity and community service and has won many awards for its philanthropy. The company encourages its employees to take an active role in volunteering and sponsors many opportunities for employees to help others.
