It was a day I will never forget. We achieved a miracle of our own!! Our achievement could not have been possible without such an incredible team of volunteers and supporters in place. Thank you for letting us be a part of something so special. I look forward to next year and creating more miracles! - Chilli Amar
In 2008, MIX 107.3 began a special relationship with Children’s, holding an all-day MIX for Kids Radiothon to benefit Children’s National Medical Center. In its inaugural year, MIX listeners stepped up to the plate and donated more than $166,000.
The following year, the incredible DJs and dedicated staff at the radio station poured their hearts and souls into galvanizing their listeners to aim for even greater success. After a day of inspiring stories, interviews with patients, and getting to the core of what makes Children's National such a vital part of our community, the MIX for Kids Radiothon raised more than $206,000! See photos from the event.
The Jack Diamond Morning Show started the day off with call-ins from the lead singer of the band Five for Fighting, George Stephanopoulos, and Regis Philbin. Fox 5’s Tony Perkins added to the event’s reach by broadcasting live at the hospital throughout the morning.
Then, the afternoon DJs pulled out all the stops. Carson and Chilli appealed to their listeners to become Miracle Makers--signing up to make ongoing $20 monthly gifts. The final push raised almost $58,000 in the last hour of the broadcast!
Also adding to the success of the radiothon was the support of sponsors RE/MAX, GEICO, Honest Tea, Food Lion, Lexus, and the participants in Cuisine for Kids.
