Toni

Story by her mom, Rhonda

Toni BetheaWhen Toni was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, I knew nothing about diabetes. So I had to quickly learn how to be the lifeline for my daughter.  Diabetes is a disease that can be controlled, but you need to be educated and taught how to control it.  At this point, I think Children’s National Medical Center is astounded by the number of kids they are treating.  I was told the number of diabetes at Children’s National has doubled over the past five years, and I believe the community should support Children’s and its diabetes program, because it is for children…and they didn’t ask for this disease.  And it’s hard, and the kids deserve the best care they can get.
